Royal Parade 2010

Mom turned 175 years yesterday. Actually yesterday was the day where we celebrated it and not her birthday itself. You might be wondering if I’m some lunatic, talking about my mom’s 175th birthday… ? Yes would be the answer for sure. Yesterday was Royal Parade, where royalist of all ages walked for a purpose, and it coincides with the 175th anniversary of Royal College. Taking part in this event is the dream of all Royalist, glad I didn’t miss it !

Yesterday I had to cancel all my work just to take part in the Royal Parade. Royal had organized this parade after 7 years. The last was in 2003, where I as young school boy did organize certain events. The 2010 Royal parade was not thaaaaaaaaat big as the 2003 Royal parade. The Parade was less attractive. I could remember in 2003 we were asked to come up with themes for each club and society where they could design a truck of deco to take part in the parade, but this year there were only few of them, and not that attractive as we designed back then. My design for a society was able to pull 9000 bucks from the organizing committee, and it was the 2nd most spent deco truck of the parade (in the clubs and societies category). Actually almost all the people who came for the 2003 Royal Parade still remembers our stunt at the parade. If you had witness the 2003 Royal parade, ask for yourself for the best designed truck (in the clubs and societies category) at the parade, it would definitely be my truck. Anyway past is past. The 2010 Royal parade was rocking as always, with costumes, marching bands, floats and our very own papare’s.

There were a lot of visiting schools who also took part in the parade to name a few I saw Trinity College, Holy Family convent, St Pauls girls school, Ananda College. Some of these schools came with their college bands and had a wonderful time. The Royal primary section also had a chance to do there stunt, they cheered R O Y A L throughout the parade, and that was a Waa Waaw. This brings me my memories back, as a primary student cheering and waving the Royal flag. Sad indeed.

Yesterday the rain Gods proved that he was a Thomian, as it started to rain as soon as the parade kicked off. This happened during the 2003 Royal Parade as well. I have no doubt that the Rain God is a Thomian. Anyway this is how the parade kicked off.

If you Spot Ranil Wickramasighe I would give you 1000 bucks and I mean it… tell me what he is wearing and put it as a comment.

There were horse carriages, to elephants, fancy and luxury cars (painted with blue and gold), clowns, Name it!!! This was much bigger than the IIFA itself. There were a lot of unforgettable incidents that took place at the parade and I’m not gonna write it here. Too bad if you missed it!!!

The event continued with the ‘party on the Street’ Street carnival was held. It was a hawker’s street kindaf party, and most of the 5 star hotels were there. Well.. I had dinner from 3 places, Hilton, cinnamon Lakeside and Commons, Still I was hungry. I didn’t wanted to check out other restaurants as my wallet was empty. And here goes another expensive weekend, and I wish Saturdays never exist!!!

Mr. Kiribath whats your real name ?????? please tell us ko

  5. […] As Kiribath said Rain God is definitely a Thomian. Or may be he is a Trinition who is still upset about loosing Bradby a week ago in 2nd leg after coming so close to winning it in 1st leg. He showed who is the boss in his way by throwing a short but heavy rain at the kick off. But it was fun to walk in rain than walking in the Sun. […]

    • Jamie says:

hmmm…… , well… you may be right @rakas , the Rain God might be a Trinitian and might be taking revenge on us by throwing a heavy rain at Royal Parade. yet we won the battle by walking throughout the parade, despite the rain 😀

  6. Thank you for good information, i like it
